Curse the Annual Christmas Cookie Swap

I’m just saying that because I ate so much at last night’s cookie swap that I feel ill today. Not so many cookies, but I gorged on dip and other hors d’oeuvres. Okay, I had a cookie or two as well. And, what do I do this morning? I wake up, drink coffee, and eat another cookie. It’s not even a cookie, really. I made Hello Dolly’s which are layered bars of graham cracker, coconut, chocolate and nuts (not to mention the butter and other stuff that goes into them). I’m sure they have hardly any calories. Yes, that was breakfast. Then, my niece–who, incidentally, is one of my most favorite people to hang out with–talked me into Chinese for lunch followed up with a coffee from Starbucks. (Okay, it’s not really that hard to talk me into Chinese and Starbucks.) But I showed great restraint at Starbucks by not ordering my regular (a Cafe Mocha) and had a cup of Christmas blend instead. Now, I’m home in my kitchen staring at this plate of cookies that I didn’t make and sort of wanting to barf. But I’ll get over it because I have to make another batch of cookies and go to another cookie swap. Nope, not even kidding. Gotta love the holidays!!!

But while I gripe about eating things I don’t normally eat, let me say that I do love this time of year. Even though it stays dark too long and it’s too cold to just hang out outside. There’s so much pressure to find everyone the perfect gift and then the nerves about having spent too much money. Still, it is a special time for family, friends, and remembering the birth of our Lord Christ. I make sure that during this busy time of year that I don’t forget what He did for me.

Kit: I have to admit that after my annual cookie swap last week, I ate cookies for a mid-morning, okay, soon after breakfast snack. And I was glad my children were at school so they couldn’t see me. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.
