Reading

I read all sorts of fiction. At University, I concentrated in Twentieth Century English Literature, and later, in graduate school studied Medieval French. Click here to see what I’m reading now.

Cooking

I do love great food. I love eating in fine restaurants or in dives that have specialty cuisine and know how to do it right.  I cook myself too, when I get the chance.  Click here to see what I’m cooking.

Yoga

I discovered yoga during my first pregnancy. It’s a great way to stretch muscles and build strength. I prefer to take classes but it’s also something that’s easy to do at home. I recommend any Rodney Yee videos.

Riding

I have always loved horses, but never rode much until I was in graduate school and needed a hardcore way to relieve stress. Since then, I’ve owned two horses and leased three others—thoroughbreds, warm bloods, and a quarter horse. I’ve competed in hunter shows, jumper shows and my favorite, eventing, which is a combination of dressage, cross country, and jumping.

Golf

Golf is one of the most frustrating sports there is, but I love playing it anyway. I think some of the prettiest spots on Earth are on golf courses. Some of my favorites are: Half Moon Bay, The Ocean Course; Grey Hawk, The Raptor Course; Paiute, the Sun Mountain Course; Bay Creek, The Nicklaus Course, and Daufuski Island, The Melrose Course. My husband and I make regular visits to Scottsdale, AZ, just to play golf and eat in great restaurants.

Skiing

I first started skiing at Sugar Mountain, North Carolina, when I was three years old. Since then I’ve skied lots of mountains in North America and across Europe. My favorites are probably Grimentz, Switzerland or Sundance in Utah. I’ll admit that I can’t do anything extraordinary on skis. I leave that to my husband who spent several seasons in Breckenridge before we were married. I do manage to keep up with him, so that’s something. The only places I won’t follow him are the half-pipe and tree skiing. No thanks, honey.
